132 & 134 First Street SE
In the late 1800s, a group of Baptists had a revival on a shady knoll where the Norman Hotel building now stands.
This is a photo of the Southern Hotel. It burned in December of 1908. A fire started in the back and spread all over the building, making it one of the biggest fires Moultrie had ever seen. During the evacuation, a child was left behind. Smoke and fire had entered the room as the child’s father came back through a window to save his child.
The Hotel Norman opened on November 7, 1911. It had 40 rooms. The first floor had a lobby and a dining room that sat 75 people. The second floor had a parlor and bedrooms, while the third floor was all bedrooms.
