2 Frist Avenue SE

On this west corner site of First Avenue South East, Two Confer’s and Fruit opened its doors in 1903.

In 1904, Horne Mercantile Company moved into the newly built corner building. You can still read D. N. Horne 1904 on a baseplate at this location to this day. D. N. Horne had a concrete business at this location.

In 1907, Horne Mercantile Company and the Crescent Drug Company worked out a deal where they would swap buildings.

Later several drug stores were located here. Beginning in 1912, Monk McLean Drug Store and in 1915 McLean Drug Store.

1933 Guy’ Pharmacy, 1931 Guy’s Pharmacy and Charles J. Knapp Optometrist.  In the 1950’s Knapp’s Watch Repair was also housed here.

Register and Taylor Drug Store operated on this corner from 1960-1998.  It was remembered for its beautiful African violets. Sid Collins bought it from them and in 1998 Moultrie Pawn Shop – Army/Navy Surplus came to this location.
