24 First Avenue SE

The building adjoining Griners is the law office of Mickey Waller.  This building has been home to at least 11 businesses since 1903. According to the Sanborn maps, the first business was B&S, and later a dry goods store in 1912.

In 1922, PT Persons Dry Goods occupied the bottom floor while the upstairs housed cotton brokers: J. T. McArthur, Pidcock and Roddenbery, and Garbutt and Company.

In 1937 Hitchcock Grocery and Poole Meat Market, in 1951 Birdsey Flour Mills, and in 1976-1985 Ronnie Strange Sports Shop and the Shoe Show were at this location.  In the 1990’s Doug Bell owned the building and started South Georgia Cotton Company.  In the more recent years, Jack Short and Larkin Fowler had their law offices here.
