Federal Building
In 1912, Congress appropriated a large sum of money for the construction of rural post offices, including $65,000 for a facility in Moultrie. In 1917, a construction contract for the building was let to Richardson Engineering Company, specialists in the construction of southern post offices.
The Postal Service occupied this new building in July of 1919. That same year motorized vehicles began to replace horse and buggies for the mail delivery.
The building served as Moultrie’s post office for 46 years. In late 1964, a new post office was built and occupied.
In 1996, Bruce Vines, Lane Wear, and Sam Mangum acquired the building. It was renovated in 1997.

In October of 2025 Kelley-Meister Insurance Services completed renovations and moved their business into the building.
Caroline Barber and Katrina McIntosh conducted research on this building as part of the NSCDA-GA Moultrie Town Committee’s project for America’s 250th birthday. If you have a photo you think would look good on this page, or have missing information, please email mediarequest@moultriega.com.
